If
you want something really different, something that touches proper
jazz, 2step and dancehall then this ones for you. Munchies gets a
re-working from I-Wolf heading straight for the dancefloor. You also
get the added bonus on this twelve of the live version and original too
for the jazz heads. It’s just out there.

Munchies sounds devastating. Especially
the I-Wolf ft. DJ Collage remix will stay in my bag for a long time.
Man, what a tune! Fresh,
dubby and a topnotch jazzy feel as always with the CS-releases...
Great! Played it yesterday
on the show... Had callers immediately: "What is this?"

Very nice surprise Coming from my man
Zeljko…
Really like
the vibe of the original and especially the live version which is
even more powerful in my ears...I Wolf mix is nice but not catching
much of my interest...Charted
already for 3 weeks and will be playlisted in the next weeks for sure...

BELGRADEYARD SOUND SYSTEM - Munchies - Cosmic Sounds
4/5
More boundary squishing jazzuals from Zeljko Kerleta's
Cosmic Sounds label. He's unearthed some fab Eastern-European jazz and
fusion, old and new, over the past few years, and this keeps up the
quality. The I-Wolf remix featuring DJ Collage is the one, a fat, noisy
reggae dancehall-jazz mash-up with crisp drums, wailing baritone sax
and 'dem pure ustla' style vocals making this a surprisingly infectious
throwdown. Could be a bit of a leftfield
crossover hit.
DUSTY
GROOVE AMERICA
A darkly brooding jazzy number that's
very much in the best spirit of work on the Cosmic Sounds label --
partly steeped in the groundbreaking European jazz styles of the 70s,
but also put together with a real ear for the 21st century dancefloor!
The original mix has a fair bit of beats in line with some searing,
searching sax solos -- but the live version features the whole track
played as one righteous jazz number -- with sax bits that would sound
right at home on early 70s Impulse Records!

PHILLIPS @ solar radio
A1: Really interesting concept! Really
interesting Sound!; A2: Splendid production, a crazy mixture of sound ;
B1: Who made this tune? talent that deserves success !
JON
FREER
The eastern European broken mafia continues its
invasion, with this tribute to
hunger on Zeljko's uncategorisable London label. The original sees a
barrage of
'mouth music' coat blazing horns, intense brass and hitting beats. The
'Live
Version' is a rattlingly percussed version, where a flying flute/pipe
type thing
soars over confrontational horns, alone keys and a controlled bass.
I-Wolf
brings in DJ Collage for his mix, and the artistic spinner adds curious
vocals
on top of I-Wolf's mechanical bass and industrial horns.

PICADILLY
RECORDS
London's Cosmic Sounds present a challenging 12" from Yugoslavia's
Belgradeyard Sound System, a nu jazz troupe who provide out-there
contemporary jazz breaks onthe original "Munchies" and a even more
strung out live version! The I-Wolf remix introduces harder stepping
breaks and a raw ragga MC for an extra dimension

HACTIC @ fly.co.uk
'Munchies’ has a new, fresh and
vibrant feel whilst at the same time being intrinsically
non-commercial. It's got some fantastic freeform sax playing and solid
double bass action at extra fast jazz dance shuffle. Cosmic Sounds boss
Zeljko Kerleta explains, "BGYSS has made noticeable progress since
their first release on Belgrade’s Burning Vol. 2 compilation ('There's
Always Someone') by moving from a pure sample based production to a
live band orientated both in production and gigs”. Comparing the studio
and 'live' versions on the a-side, there's nothing between them except
59 seconds and a more manic approach on the latter; isn't this what
jazz is all about? So to the B-side. Zeljko says, “I-Wolf did a great
job on the B-side by giving us the first hybrid of
ragga-muffin/free-jazz combination that I’ve ever heard. It’s a daring
combination that I wouldn’t dream of and it works". Fans of Megablast
and Stereotyp Meets Al Haca will feel this as DJ Collage does his DJ
toasting stylee thing. Excellent reviews of this 12” might not have
been matched by excellent sales so be warned, get it now before you're
clicking at 'Add to Wantlist'.
